As interior car lighting applications transcend beyond simple illumination at nighttime, special considerations are necessary for defining system architectures that allow coexistence of static and dynamic illumination to fulfil the requirements transforming the vehicle cockpit and deliver a customized experience to the user. Electronics play a major role in enabling this experience and addresses the challenges of supporting point-to-point light nodes as well as bus-based architectures unlocking full dynamic effects in interior lighting. These use cases present specific challenges to the design and realization of driver electronics behind the light sources, from discrete solutions to integrated smart solutions with onboard intelligence.
This presentation attempts to cover the implications of such interior car lighting systems to requirements for electronics hardware design, scalability aspects, communication protocol compatibilities, the need for on-chip software intelligence and functional safety considerations in addressing these challenges. The presentation will also discuss the supplier landscape required for realizing these new lighting features in the vehicle cockpit and potential adaptations needed by electronic suppliers in a new normal post Covid-19.
Finally, the presentation will conclude with some ideas linking interior ambient lighting to exterior lighting deriving inspiration from autonomous driving.
