Lecture description

High-performance automotive IMUs are becoming a strategic enabler for centralized, software-defined vehicle architectures. This paper shows how a single accurate motion reference can support multiple value-creating functions, including Level 2+ ADAS positioning, perception stabilization, and MEMS-based headlight levelling. By replacing duplicated or mechanically complex sensing with shared inertial data, OEMs can reduce hardware complexity, simplify integration, and lower total cost of ownership while improving system robustness. Test results with Murata’s SCH1633 demonstrate clear performance advantages during GNSS outages, maintaining lane-level positioning accuracy where a competing IMU shows significantly higher drift.
