2 mm to Integrate: Automated Narrow-Tape Mounting and EMI Shielding for Frameless Automotive Displays and Smart Surfaces

Challenge: Displays and smart surfaces increasingly carry flexible and printed electronics, but leave only a few millimetres to mount, seal and shield them. Permanent liquid bonds also lock high-value electronics in for good, which rules out rework, repair and recycling.

Hold and release: A robot applies 2–3 mm tape from the spool, and the bond is instantly load-bearing. It can be permanent, or it can be released on demand for rework, repair and end-of-life separation. A Tier-1 has qualified it as ready for series production.

EMI Shield: The same process applies electrically conductive foam tape for EMI shielding and grounding. The mounting line becomes an integration line for flexible electronics.
