Most cellular IoT products are powered by a battery.The battery cost, size, and life are often critical for a cellular IoT product’s profitability, feasibility, and success in the market. Reducing energy consumption is one of the main challenges faced in cellular IoT product development, to reduce the battery cost or size, or to increase battery life.   Sending data over the cellular connection is often the most energy-hungry operation a cellular IoT product performs. The aim is to send as little data as possible, as seldom as possible. By leveraging embedded machine learning (ML), decisions can quickly be made at the edge without sending any data over the cellular connection.
